I RE-RAN THE 10.6.0 INSTALL DVD AND WAITED FOR THE END PROMPT The installed files were in place but the installer didn't finishĭisk Utility Repair Disk scanned no problems
I booted off another drive and inspected the broken system I came back to a black unresponsive screen (forced power button shutdown required) - and an unbootable system I JUST SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THE 10.6.0 DISC ON TOP OF A 10.6.8 FULL WORKING INSTALL! My retail "10.6" Snow Leopard install disk indeed installed over my 10.6.8 system as 10.6.0 I need 10.8.6 to run some old Adobe Software, plus I have about five working versions of Photoshop and CS, and Final Cut Studio 2 that I still use on it) UPGRADING (I have several newer OSX systems on various Macs) I'm not smart enough to hack package contents or run the Terminal - but I feel comfortable running the OS install over my system (with or without a "Clean Install" option) 10.6.0 and my install is 10.6.8 - so it most likely is not possible to install over it (without first Erasing the SSD) The target 10.6.8 is a healthy boot drive and contains my full working install - my Snow Leopard Retail Install DVD is v. Second there is no Apple 10.6x disk image available for download (or 10.6x recovery mode) Is there any retail 10.6x install disc that will "clean install" over my 10.6.8 system - what version?įirst I am talking old school "clean install" a new 10.6.8 System folder (the old system folder is set aside) - my full working install stays in place and boots off the new system (to get rid of a few gremlins from moving the install from a 2008 Mac Pro to 2010 Mac Mini)
